Alexandria J. Brown

Professional Legal Transcriptionist

Alexandria J. Brown is new on the scene of legal transcription, but her whole life preceding the decision to pursue this field has well-prepared her to excel. Obtaining a perfect score on the verbal portion of the SAT at age thirteen, Alexandria studied Latin and Ancient Greek in some depth before the age of ten, at a small private elementary school for gifted children in Tampa, Florida.

Exceptional facility in language arts

Throughout her life, Alexandria has displayed prodigy-level skills widely in the sphere of language arts. She began undergraduate coursework in Philosophy at the University of South Florida at age thirteen and went on to complete advanced graduate-level seminar work in the discipline—with a special emphasis in Continental European ethical, political and aesthetic theory—at the University of South Florida and the New College of Florida. Her studies of political philosophy including some elements of legal theory have instilled in her a deep and abiding respect for the important responsibility of maintaining an accurate and enduring record of legal depositions and courtroom proceedings.

An interior universe shaped by the power of the spoken & written word

The most commanding strengths of Alexandria’s intelligence in the language arts include an encyclopedic photographic memory recall ability, a strong vocabulary, a robust grasp of conceptual grammar, a fine-grained attention to technical detail in writing, powerful reading comprehension, and masterful fluency in English, with moderate fluency in French. Alexandria is a prolific reader and writer who especially loves audiobooks. Some of her favorite pieces of writing are collections of letter correspondences between artists and philosophers—for example, the poet Rainer Maria Rilke’s Letters on Cezanne and Letters to a Young Poet, the thinker Hannah Arendt’s written correspondences with philosopher Martin Heidegger, or her Heidegger the Fox—and Elfreda Powell’s The Letters of Vincent Van Gogh.

Alexandria completed her Court Reporting and Legal Transcription course with the State College of Florida on February 3rd, 2024. She is currently preparing to take the CER and CET exams with the American Association of Electronic Recorders and Transcribers (AAERT).
